How this calculator works
Pick a direction and enter the amount with the shape of the working year — hours per week and paid weeks per year. Converting down, an annual salary divides through the year into monthly, weekly and hourly figures. Converting up, an hourly rate builds into the salary it would produce at the same hours. All four figures are always shown, because negotiations tend to move between whichever frame suits the other side.
The working-year assumptions do more work than the arithmetic. Forty hours across 52 weeks is 2,080 hours, but a contract quoting 37.5 hours and unpaid breaks is a different year entirely. The converter exposes both inputs so you can match the actual terms on the table rather than a generic full-time year that exists in nobody's contract.
Good practice and limits
Compare like with like when a salary and a contract rate are on the table. Salaried pay quietly includes paid leave, employer pension or social contributions, equipment and job security; a bare hourly rate must fund all of that itself. Convert first, then price the extras — the honest gap between the two offers is usually not where the headline numbers suggest.
