About

The money side of small business, made legible

BusinessLipTools is a set of calculators for the figures freelancers and small businesses actually argue about: what a price should be, what a loan really costs, what a client has kept back in tax, and the hourly rate hidden inside a salary. Every tool does one job, in the open, with its method written next to it.

The site exists because these calculations are usually done in one of three bad places: in someone's head at a negotiating table, in a spreadsheet last edited by a person who has left, or on a website that wants an email address before it shows the answer. None of those is where a number you are about to sign your name to should come from. Here, the inputs sit on the left, the answer on the right, and an explanation underneath — so you can check the working instead of trusting it.

How the site is run

There is no server behind these tools. Each page is plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript; the arithmetic happens on your own device, and nothing you enter — no invoice total, salary or loan figure — is transmitted, stored or logged. That is a deliberate architectural choice, not a privacy promise we ask you to take on faith: open your browser's network tools while you use any calculator and watch nothing leave.

The trade-off is equally deliberate. With no accounts there is no saved history, no syncing between devices and no dashboard. If you need a figure again, you recompute it. For the kind of quick, checkable arithmetic this site is for, we think that trade favours the user.

What the tools are not

These are calculators, not advisers. Tax rates change, lending rules differ by country, and your circumstances carry details no web form asks about. The tools do the arithmetic for the figures and rates you enter, and the pages say so wherever a legal or regulatory limit applies. For decisions with real money attached, a qualified accountant or adviser in your jurisdiction is worth their fee — ideally armed with printouts from here, so the conversation starts from checked numbers.
