How this calculator works
Type a figure and the converter writes it out in English words, cents included, in two forms: the natural sentence form used in contracts and agreements, and the cheque convention that writes the cents as a fraction over 100. Amounts up to just under a trillion are supported, built up in the standard thousand, million and billion groups.
Written amounts are a security feature disguised as a formality. Digits are easy to alter — a 3 becomes an 8, a decimal point wanders — while words resist quiet editing, which is why cheques, promissory notes and contracts carry both and why, in many legal traditions, the words prevail if the two disagree. Generating them by tool rather than by hand removes the other classic error: the words and the figures simply not matching because someone typed one of them wrong.
Good practice and limits
Copy the words exactly as generated, including the cents treatment your document expects — cheque style and sentence style are both in use and mixing them inside one document looks sloppy. Then do the ten-second check that catches most fraud and most typos alike: read the words back against the figures, digit by digit, before anything is signed.
