How this calculator works

When a client pays an invoice, some must be held back and paid to the tax authority in your name — withholding tax, tax deducted at source, and similar schemes exist in most countries. Enter the gross payment and the withholding rate (plus any fixed deduction) and the calculator shows the amount kept back, the net that will actually arrive, and the effective deduction as a percentage of the invoice.

The net figure is the one your cash flow feels. A 10% withholding on a large invoice is real money missing for months, even though it usually comes back as a credit against your final tax bill. Businesses that price and plan on gross figures discover the gap at the worst moment — when the payment lands short. Planning on the net, and chasing the withholding certificate you need to claim the credit, are the two habits this tool supports.

Good practice and limits

Never treat withheld tax as lost, and never treat it as received. Record three numbers for every such payment — gross, withheld, net — and keep the payer's withholding certificate with the invoice; without the document, claiming the credit at filing time becomes an argument instead of a lookup.
